What is counseling?
According to the Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, counseling is the “Professional
guidance of the individual by utilizing psychological methods especially in collecting case
history data, using various techniques of the personal interview, and testing interests and
aptitudes”.  Counseling is an intervention necessary to gain insight of one’s self and relationship
with others.   Counseling is a tool used to learn strengths and weaknesses and eliminate
unhealthy patterns in life.   Counseling is a process that takes time, depending on the client and
the issues they need to face or overcome.
What is a Counselor?
A Counselor is someone who:

Listens to assess the emotional, physical, and verbal status

Encourages exploring issues impacting progression

Empowers to face stressors and dilemmas of life

Validates feelings any and all feelings

Educates for a better understanding and implantation of
healthier life skills

Nurtures continuously to help heal internally

Advocates for the best interest of the client at all times

Assists in the growing process
